The spirit of a young woman out to seek revenge is the main story of Star Cinema's newest horror movie "Villa Estrella."
Directed by "horror director" Rico Ilarde, the film runs for closely two hours.
The story begins with Ana (Shaina Magdayao) having bad dreams about people being killed. Ana is a young, timid and very loving and loyal daughter. Her real nightmares start though when her former boyfriend, Alex (Jake Cuenca), brings her to "Villa Estrella” where she meets a very helpful and warm young lady named Giselle (Maja Salvador).
Ana, who doesn’t want to be alone with Alex, calls her boyfriend Dennis (Geoff Eigenmann) and asks him to join them in the villa. Dennis obligingly goes there along with his loyal friend played by Empoy. The spirit in Villa Estrella does not only haunt Anna but everyone who is staying there.
Cuenca and Eigenmann convincingly played their part in the film while Empoy provided the comic relief. Salvador and actor Ronnie Lazaro, however, were the standouts and made the movie worth watching.
Lazaro plays the character of an uneducated loving father who is looking for his missing daughter. Lazaro simply excites the moviegoers with his unpredictable character.
Two thumbs up also for actress Salvador who showed the moviegoers why she is the current "horror princess" of Philippine cinema.
Despite some lapses in the production, "Villa Estrella," unlike other horror films, still offers a unique story and twist as the plot unfolds toward the end.
"Villa Estrella," the newest horror film of Star Cinema, is still showing in over 100 theaters nationwide.
